Hope     Town

Elbow Cay,Bahamas

in our 4 weeks chartering the Abacos we adored hope town, Elbow cay

it's a beautiful island and so friendly!

Full of beautiful shops, with handmade crafts like Hope Town Canvas who make one of a kind bags out of boat sails, they also rent bikes too (so you know, a diverse business!)

THere's a local art gallery, a beautiful beach (which is hidden down an alley, it's also a home for turtles to lay their eggs every year!)

There's golf buggy's everywhere and very few cars (the roads are pretty thin) and tons of docks!

We motored in to the beautiful bay and everytime we were greeted by the huge lighthouse.

This lighthouse is the ONLY one in the world that is still kerosene lit and manually operated!

They ask for donations from tourists but it's free to walk up and look out the windows and balcony to see the islands and town below

We adore the original features inside, but definitely recomend some trainers/sneakers to walk up! we saw one woman with stilettos and she struggled massively!

Built in 1863 originally, (with modifications made in later years) it still stands proudly guiding ships around the extensive Elbow cay reef and still operates today.

Go check out Elbow cay and all that Hope town has to offer, you wont be disappointed!
